Operation Sceptre - Tackling Knife Crime Together - Monday 16 to Sunday 22 May.

Derbyshire Constabulary

Next week we will be supporting Operation Sceptre, the national week of action to tackle knife crime, from Monday 16 to Sunday 22 May.

Police teams across the county will be joining with our partners, speaking to young people in schools, conducting knife sweeps in public places and holding various events and activities to highlight the dangers of knife crime.

The week will also see a series of knife amnesties across the county. Details of these can be found on our website:https://bit.ly/3a0cSEd

Superintendent Sarah McAughtrie explained: “Derbyshire Constabulary work all year-round, to tackle the issue of knife crime as we understand the serious impact it has on all concerned.

"We want to take every opportunity to warn of the dangers of carrying knives and to take them off the streets.

"Operation Sceptre gives us an opportunity to spotlight that work.

"Of course we understand that these amnesties may not reach those intent on carrying a knife, however if it gets one potential lethal weapon off the streets of Derbyshire it is worth doing".

Officers will be available at the amnesty locations to speak to anyone worried about someone they think may be carrying a knife or other weapon.
