A man who stole a bicycle from a driveway, and more than £730 worth of goods from shops in the Long Eaton, Sawley, and Sandiacre area has been jailed. Simon Courtnage of Chesterfield Avenue appeared at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates Court on Monday 29 April charged with one count of theft of a push bike, which he later returned, and 10 counts of thefts from shops. The 51-year-old pleaded guilty to stealing the bike from Grosvenor Avenue in Sawley on Thursday 21 March, and a series of thefts from four different stores between Wednesday 20 March and Thursday 25 April. He was also found to be in breach of a suspended sentence for an earlier offence and was jailed for a total of 42 weeks. Sergeant Jason Limb, of the Long Eaton Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Courtnage has shown to be prolific in his offending, admitted the thefts and has now been jailed for his crimes. “We would like to thank the stores for their cooperation and support during the investigation. Shoplifting affects retail staff and customers alike and this type of behaviour won’t be tolerated.” | ||||
