Chief Superintendent Emma Aldred, who leads policing in Derby, said: "I and the team in Derby, as well wider across the force, are fully aware of information circulating online about potential planned protests on Wednesday. "Understandably, given the situation that has been seen, there have been concerns raised by our communities and we have been working closely to ensure that these worries are understood and addressed. “Since the incidents that have been seen elsewhere in the country, we have put in place a full operational and resourcing plan which is being led by myself for Derby - with a force overview from our Assistant Chief Constable Michelle Shooter. “We are continuing to monitor the information about the planned events on Wednesday and will review our policing plans in line with any new information. “Officers from the local policing team in Normanton have been having regular meetings with our leads from across all groups, faiths and communities in recent days – and there are in person visits, to understand any concerns that businesses and residents have, being undertaken as we speak - and there are continued briefings to ensure that everyone has the most up to date information over the coming days. “We absolutely understand the concerns that have been raised but I want to reassure you that we have the significant resources dedicated to any issue that may be seen - and they are able to react quickly should anything planned, or indeed unplanned, happen. "Myself and officers will continue to work round the clock to keep you safe - and I would urge everyone to remain calm, work with us to understand any concerns that you may have and ensure that our city continues to be the friendly, welcoming place we know that it is." | ||||
