Crime Prevention Advice- Van Thefts and Break-Ins

Following a recent increase in van thefts and break ins here are some essential tips to protect your vehicle and its contents:

  • Always Secure: Lock doors and windows, even for brief periods.
  • Hide Valuables: Keep items like phones and sat-navs out of sight. Never leave keys in the van.
  • Remove Items: When possible, take tools, stock, and equipment out of the van, especially overnight.
  • Park Strategically: Choose well-lit, busy areas.
  • Visible Deterrents: Consider steering or handbrake locks.
  • Invisible Protection: Advertise hidden security devices like trackers or alarms with warning stickers.
  • Small but Significant: Add locking wheel nuts, a removable stereo, or a lockable fuel filler cap.
  • Activate Alarms: Ensure the van's alarm is always set when unattended.
  • Enhanced Security: Install a vehicle alarm and immobilizer. Many insurers offer discounts for these features.
