County Lines Intensification Week: Lunchtime drop in at Glossopdale School

Glossop SNT - School Engagement

County Lines Intensification Week:

PCSO Buller has been at Glossopdale School, Newshaw Lane, Hadfield at lunchtime today, Wednesday 27th November by being available to chat, inform and make aware our young people about County Lines.

🔷 Children aged 15-17 make up the bulk of young people involved in county lines, and we know both girls and boys are groomed, exploited and threatened with violence if they don’t comply.

🔷 Young people can be exposed to physical, mental and sexual abuse, and in some instances will be trafficked to areas a long way from home as part of the network’s drug dealing business.

🔷 Young people often don’t see themselves as victims, they are flattered by the attention and gifts they receive, so it’s important that the signs are spotted as they won’t often present themselves to us or third parties as someone in need.

🛑  Some of the signs of changes in young people to spot include:

  • New unaffordable items.

  • Person going missing, such as missing from school.

  • Unexplained injuries.

  • Receiving an excessive amount of texts and phone calls.

  • Carrying weapons.

  • Self-harm or significant changes in emotional wellbeing.

  •

ℹ️ Figures from National Referral Mechanism show the number of modern slavery cases involving UK minors increased from 676 in 2017 to 1,421 in 2018.

🔺 Third parties, such as health professionals, teachers and social workers who work with young people and vulnerable adults can also help us to spot the signs of county lines.
