## Important crime prevention advice ##

There have again been several burglaries in the surrounding areas where the method of snapping locks (also known as blow torch burglaries on PVC doors) to gain access to properties has been used, it allows a quick and quiet way of breaking into properties with poor locks.

This method can easily be prevented by updating your locks to anti-snapping locks, cylinder locks can be changed by yourself reasonably cheap and easily. However, it is vital that they are measured properly to ensure the right size for your door. They should NOT be fitted so that they are left protruding from the door unit or handle.

We are urging residents to check their locks and replace if required to improve their home security, a simple check of your locks to see if it has a Kitemark and 3 Star security rating as shown below is advised to check they are to the correct standard, also speak with staff in most stores who can normally give advice.

The link below gives lots of helpful advice around locks and home security.
