On the evening of Tuesday 17th December 2024 officers from the local Hadfield Safer Neighbourhood Team came across three people at the top of Old Road, Tintwistle who swiftly ran away from a scooter and E-bike they had just been seen riding. It turns out the scooter was stolen and the E-bike is illegal to use on a public road, as a result both were recovered by police. It is illegal for privately-owned e-scooters / E-bikes to be used on roads, cycle lanes, tracks, pavements and other public spaces. Privately owned e-scooters / E-bikes can only be used on private land where there is no public access and with relevant permission from the land owner, both these fall within the legal definition of a “motor vehicle”, therefore the laws that apply to motor vehicles apply to e-scooters / E-bikes. |
