Countdown to Christmas

Christmas is just around the corner and many of you will have last minute shopping to do ready for the big day!

Unfortunately this busy period can make it easier for opportunist thieves to target distracted shoppers. Whilst officers work with local retailers to make our town centre and high streets safe places to shop, we ask that you're extra mindful when out and about. Take a look at our tips to help keep you safe whatever the time of year:

*Keep handbags securely fastened and carry them in front of you

*ALWAYS Shield your PIN number when paying by card and at cash machines

*Don't keep mobile phones and wallets in your back pocket - this makes them an easy target

*Don't leave valuables or Christmas presents in your car, if you have to, make sure they're out of sight

*Park in a well lit area or attended carpark, and ALWAYS lock your vehicle

We also encourage you to contact us if you see anything suspicious whilst you're out and about reporting either online or 101 for non-emergencies, or 999 in an emergency or if you suspect a crime to be in progress

With your help we can continue to make Derbyshire a safe place to live, shop and visit
