We are currently investigating a number of thefts from work vans in the Spondon area which have happened overnight between Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd January. The offences have occurred on Huntley Avenue at 2035hrs on the 2nd January, and Deepdale Road between 2300hrs on the 2nd and 0700hrs on the 3rd January. The vehicles specifically targeted are Ford Transit Custom vans, whereby a tool has been used to force entry to the side door. We are keen to hear from anyone who has any information, especially homeowners in the area who have CCTV footage that covers the above areas, who have not already been spoken to by Officers. Anyone with information is asked to contact us using the below methods, quoting the relevant reference number:- 25*4678 - Deepdale Road 25*6182 - Huntley Avenue Tips for keeping your van safe: - Always lock doors and close the windows when you're away from your vehicle, even for a short time. - Don't leave any valuables such as phones or sat-navs visible, and definitely never leave the keys in the van. - Whenever possible, remove tools, stock and other equipment from the van, especially when leaving it overnight. - Park in busy, well-lit areas. - Visible security features can be a strong deterrent, so consider steering or handbrake locks. - If you have an invisible security device such as a tracker or an alarm, make sure that prospective thieves know about it by placing a warning sticker on your van - it can be more than enough to put them off. - Many vans will come with an alarm fitted as standard, ensure the vehicle alarm is set when it is unattended. - Consider fitting a vehicle alarm and immobiliser - many insurance companies will reduce premiums for this measure. ***Keep an eye on our Social media for Tool marking events we are planning in the area*** Website – We have crime reporting tools on our website: https://orlo.uk/NrQud Facebook – send us a private message to the Derbyshire Constabulary Facebook page X (Twitter) – direct message our contact centre via @DerPolContact Phone – call us on 101 You can also anonymously contact the independent charity CrimeStoppers, on 0800 555 111, or by visiting the CrimeStoppers website: https://orlo.uk/3FORx |
