Neighbourhood Priorities - Normanton

Every 3 months we, as the Police Neighbourhood team, review what we should focus on, based on analysing data of incidents reported, frequent callers, discussion with residents at engagement events, local partner agencies and through surveys. This then factors into what our policing teams for each ward area of our section will have as a priority to try and resolve, in addition to our other policing and engagement duties that happen spontaneously throughout or working day.

This results in three priorities, typically some of the bigger concerns from the public, such as littering, dog fouling and parking issues are resolved by other agencies, such as the council, but will support if we can with these.

For the next three months, our three priorities for Normanton will be:

Priorities:

1: Drug use, paraphernalia and associated ASB on Arboretum Park

2: Speeding and nuisance parking ( Community Survey)

3: Drinking, loitering and ASB around Southgate Retail park

Actions:
1: High visibility patrols and plain clothes officers are regularly deployed as part of a patrol strategy to disrupt, deter and identify those involved in the variety of anti social behaviour present. Pop up engagement events are planned and occur with crime prevention advice and gadgets. Liaison with partner agencies and departments on improvements to the parks features occur regularly. Patrols organised between intervention and support agencies to try to resolve the root cause of individuals issues.

2: Following community surveys, the public have highlighted speeding issues as being one of their primary concerns in the area. Police generated speedwatch have been conducted and CREST have been advised of issues on main throughfares. Working in partnership with Derby City Councils Public Protection Officers and Traffic Management we conduct regular joint patrols, disrupting and deterring nuisance parking, and taking enforcement action proactively.

3: Working in conjunction with various Derby City Council departments to enforce a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO), issuing fixed penalty notices and Community Protection warnings to regular offenders. The PSPO allows officers to disperse persons engaging in anti social behaviour and issue Fixed penalty notices for acts such as littering, begging, loitering and drinking. Working with intervention partners to try and assist in preventing further issues with prolific offenders and supporting their welfare. Advising and meeting with shops and businesses on how to prevent issues.
