👮🏼♀️ "If you don't behave, the Police will take you away!" 👮🏼 👮🏼♂️ "The Police are there - they will get you!" 👮🏼♀️
We often hear these phrases and much more when we're out and about in the community, especially from parents who might be struggling to get their child/children to listen but we're asking you please, don't tell your children this.
We work long and hard to build up the good working relationships we have with all of our local primary schools who often invite us in to have a chat to the children around different topics, including bullying/hate crime/knife crime etc.
We understand it must be frustrating for parents who's child does not listen but please change these commonly used phrases to one we prefer to use, "we will not take you away, but we would like to see some good behaviour".
As part of the Safer Neighbourhood Team, our work involves serving our community and addressing local issues - amongst doing this we get to know our local children very well, (and they know us too!) and we would like them to know that we are here to help them, should they ever need it.
One of our local children has recently remembered the advice we gave them on dialling 999 for help and did just this when there was a fire in a local park. 👏🏼⭐ We focus on preventing and reducing crime, protecting the vulnerable, and providing reassurance to the community and a big part of this is our work we do inside of the schools with the children.
We're asking you to help us to maintain that strong relationship and know that if your child/children are ever lost, or need to call us for help, they can. Don't teach your children to be scared of the people who are there to help them!!! That's what neighbourhoods policing is all about! 😎👍🏼
