KEEPING CHILDREN SAFE IN NEWTON SOLNEY

New road safety markings have been installed near a local school, after residents complained about speeding drivers.

Mercia Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) received reports that inconsiderate van drivers were hurtling along Trent Lane in the village of Newton Solney.

A road safety partnership meeting was organised with the headteacher of Newton Solney Church of England Aided Infants School.

Police worked with the school and local councillors to examine what potential measures could be installed to improve safety at the location.

And last week, much to the delight of teachers and parents at the school, new highly visible road safety markings were introduced by Derbyshire County Council.

Police met up with the school’s headteacher, Davinia Gamble, to view the location of the road markings and to discuss the installation of further safety measures and signs.
