🚲 Night-Time Bike Safety Reminder 🚲

Good evening Resident 

We’ve recently received several reports of cyclists not being seen by drivers until the very last moment. This creates a serious risk for both cyclists and other road users.

We’re reminding cyclists across Derbyshire to stay safe and stay visible especially at night. 

Please ensure you have the correct equipment when riding at night:

✔ Front and rear lights – A white front light and a red rear light are legal requirements after dark.
✔ Reflective clothing – Bright or reflective jackets, armbands, and leg bands can dramatically improve visibility.
✔ Reflectors on your bike – Check your wheel and pedal reflectors are clean and working.
✔ A properly fitted helmet – Not required by law, but highly recommended for your safety.
✔ Plan your route – Choose well‑lit paths wherever possible.

Being visible gives drivers more time to react and helps prevent avoidable collisions.
