Update - Derelict building |

#Update | Safety warning issued around dangers of entering derelict buildings
We are issuing a safety message to members of the public around the dangers of entering derelict buildings.
This follows an increase in the number of calls we have received relating to people gaining access and setting fires at the former Albert Looms car breakers yard in Spondon.
The most recent of which was a large-scale fire that was started deliberately at the site on Sunday 14 June.
We would like to raise awareness of the dangers of entering derelict sites and also remind people about the significant impact such incidents have on resources for emergency services.
Derelict buildings pose significant safety hazards and could be at risk of collapse. There may be hazardous materials present which pose fire and health risks.
There could be unstable floors, weakened supports concealed by debris or darkness, flooded areas and exposed electrical wiring.
Mould or damp could lead to breathing problems and there is a risk that rodents or other vermin may be present.
Entering derelict buildings without permission is considered trespassing and could land you in trouble with the law.
Protect yourself and the safety of others by please staying out of derelict buildings. See posts, photos and more on Facebook.
