Community spirit in action! The Littleover and Mickleover team have been topping up our tans in this challenging heat this week with a number of engagements and patrols; whilst out and about it has been really heartening to see the community spirit in action given recent reports of Robberies on local parks. This has understandably caused some concern to local residents but it was wonderful to see, once again, how the whole community have come together to support each other:
Today, PCSO Darcy-Cox and PCSO Supervisor Coleman were joined by Carlisle against Crime on King George V Playing Fields and Clemson's Park as The Police secured posters on Littleover and Blagreaves parks around E-scooters. We have had reports of an increase in E-Scooters at this location in particular and this week PCSO Murphy has seized two high powered scooters from children. The models are worth several hundred pounds and can reach speeds between 30 and 45mph. This is concerning given they were not wearing any protection too. E-scooters remain illegal and we will seize them when stopped. The Carlisle against Crime group have been very helpful in feeding back community reports and concerns over the years, with good results, but as i said at the recent coffee morning, the reports need to be made through the correct channels so we can evidence the scope of a particular issue, which agencies need to be involved and how we can resolve it. Earlier in the week, PCSO's Hartley and Thom, on dedicated patrols following an alleged robbery on Sunnydale Park, stopped and seized another E-scooter on Rosamond's ride, close to the offence location.
PCSO Darcy-Cox and PCSO Supervisor Coleman have attended Mrs C's Tea Cosy for a community catch up and some crime prevention gadgets; such as window alarms, shed signs, anti tamper screws and personal alarms. We have discussed some issues and concerns local to Littleover and Blagreaves. Shelley at the Café has been really supportive to local residents, victims and the Police as we continue our enquiries, and always so welcoming. She has offered the café as a safe space for anyone who may need it. Whilst there the team were also gifted a jar of home made jam from a local young person, raising money for charity. The team is so appreciative of this and i am sure will work wonders on the early morning shifts! Councillor Atwal also visited and discussed with residents upcoming events and how he can support local residents.
Later we were joined by Ali, from Greener Derby who is currently doing a free book scheme with The National Literacy Trust; several hundred books are being hidden in parks and green spaces across Derby in the hope it will encourage young people to get out on the parks more, discover something new and potentially try a new hobby. The focus this year is on Sports. Our team have been given a few to hide around locally too so be sure to share if you find any. They are in green, biodegradable bags, ours have a picture of Bobby the beat dog. Good luck!
Shortly after this a visitor from London broke down in the White Swan car park, Ali and many of the patrons to the pub came out to assist her and with their combined knowledge swiftly got her back on the road, very grateful in this heat and i am sure will leave a lasting impression of the people of Littleover.
PCSO's Hartley and Van-De-Broucke have been racking up the miles on their bikes, patrolling from Sunny Hill to Mickleover on hotspot patrols such as Caxton Park and Vicarage Park. During the course of this they have assisted in an area search for a concern for safety of a male walking into oncoming traffic.
PC's Lucic and Cotton have attended the airport to effect an arrest, and then shortly after been on the tail of an E-bike. As with the E-scooters they present a challenge in stopping, with modifications or certain models, such as Surrons, being able to reach almost 70mph. We would encourage anyone who knows where they may be stored, or ridden regularly to let us know and we can take action. You may have seen an earlier post on our main channel. A further suspect has been arrested for the robberies in Littleover and Mickleover and remains in Police Custody. This result was only possible due to the response to the recent media appeal and local residents, so once again, thank you.
It is so positive to see how the community continue to come together when most needed and keep this area a safe, pleasant and welcoming place to live.
